Dapanji is set to rock #PlayFestival this weekend.

Today Equinox Experience revealed that Dapanji will be bringing the beautiful beats once more before he returns to Israel. So for all the disheartened stompers who weren’t able to make IndepenDANCE, don’t fret. You have another chance to jam your brains out at The Play Festival to not one international but two. Catch Dapanji at 08:00 and Aviation at 14:30 for the #sundaysession.

And that wasn’t only good news we heard from Equinox. The official lineup times for BOTH dancefloors (yes, two dancefloors, kids!) have been posted. Check it out.

Review: Labyrinth ALIVE.

On Saturday night I had the privilege of attending Labyrinth ALIVE.  As usual, the event was hosted at Trinity, which just so happens to be my all-time favourite place to stomp indoors.
So, what is there to love about  Labyrinth the end of the day? Aren’t all trance parties the same?

The answer is NO! Ask anyone who has attended a Labyrinth event; I’m positive they’ll agree, they are always extremely well organised, awesomely decorated and feature some of the best local and international psy artists to hit Cape Town. Although the queue at the door was rather long, once I entered the venue I knew that it was worth the wait. The music was pumping at full-force, people were getting wild and the visuals… Well, I think the photographs speak for themselves.

As promised, party-goers were visually enticed with tanatalisingly trippy decor and stage design by LumiNOS Decor and Myles Design, as well as a live VJ display from Frank Latter Visuals.

The killer lineup also included DJs: Danalog, Stereotype, Feedback and HEADROOM and an insane closing set from Deliriant. The dancefloor was vibrant and buzzing with stomping feet, swaying hips and many smiling faces, all the way through.

Review: Psycho Circus @ Carnival Court.

On Friday night, CentralSound Events in association with Carnival Court presented its
first ever PSYCHO CIRCUS event. A great night of psychedelicious sounds, uplifting
atmosphere and friendly faces was shared by all who attended. Highlights included banging beats from Hektek Elektrek, Iamikonic and Drang3d, fun decor by Mike and Mel and super trippy visuals. Special thanks goes to the organisers and Michael Honeyman for making it happen. As well as, DJ Reiner who kindly stood in for Nick Birkby as he was unable to attend the event.

Review: Beartrap- Mystical Contact

So, Monday is here. Time to put our party hats away and our thinking caps back on – for now.
But before you do that, let’s reflect on the weekend’s highlights.

On Saturday night I had the pleasure of psyking out to the legendary
Eddie Zaltsman (Mystical Complex) and Didy Ezra (Bizzare Contact) at the Side Show,
one of Cape Town’s hottest venues right now). These psy-sensations had the
crowed bouncing, swaying and stomping til they simply couldn’t anymore.

Along with psyko international tunes and a kick-ass lineup, that included local talent like PortalPsyDJay MarkSwaysHiFt, Flyp PSyd, Sci Lab (Mungus Fungus), Chemogen & D Ranged,
the “day of the dead” themed decor was absolutely mind-blowing.

Snapshots I took at the party.

It’s evident that the organisers went the extra mile to ensure
a great party experience for all. The “Fez Face” was psyked out for the occasion with
flower-power projection mapping, and everywhere I looked, from the ceiling to the DJ box,
I was greeted with majestic eye candy.

The event was made extra special by the Día de Muertos performers (from fire-breathers to
hula-hoopers), who were transformed with body-art by Michaela Young and Mix Makeup. Super cool.

It certainly was a mystical night. From the tight security to the awesome decor, vibrant atmosphere
and the love that pumped all the way through, thank you Beartrap Productions for making it happen.
Having been involved in the trance scene for over ten years, their experience and expertise shine through. They know how to throw a killer party.
Can’t wait for the next one!

Review: Perfect Stranger- Multiverz

I woke up to the exciting news on Friday morning that I was one of three lucky prizewinners for the Psymedia Giveaway I wrote about earlier this week (read it here).  Upon arrival at Trinity, I received an awesome Multiverz hamper (that included 2 tickets to the Event, 4 Perfect Stranger CDs and 2 T-shirts).  What a way to start the evening! Congratulations to the other prizewinners: Cheslyn Oliver and Casey Lynn Curtis. I hope you jammed as hard as I did. ______________________________________________________________ multied Snap shot I took. StereoType had Trinity pumping from the get-go, and warming up the crowd nicely before main attraction, Perfect Stranger, took center stage. The atmosphere on the dance-floor was truly incredible, there were happy faces all around. After 3 blissfully progressive hours, it was Dave Mac’s turn to make turn to keep the dance-floor buzzing ’til the lights came on. And he did. Dave was even kind enough to give the crowd “one last song!” Scott Rennie captured the evening’s events on camera. View the photo’s here.

As you can see, the eye-candy was out of this world. From the trippy decor to one of the best light shows I have ever experienced at a party, well done to ImageMasterBlinkSLAVE and MULTIVERZ for keeping us positively hypnotised.

Review: Herbal Remedy- Mongrels and Wizards

A successful night of grooving tunes and happy stomping was had by all at HERBAL REMEDY: Mongrels and Wizards last Saturday. Special thanks goes to Bianca Köhn,  CAPE TOWN PsyTrance Parties and Psy-Africa Productions for creating a spectacular evening.

First off, let’s talk about the venue. Ragazzi on Loop Street is the cutest and definitely most cozy place to psyk out in during Winter-  perfect for a party that caters to those who prefer a more rustic experience.

Other highlights included a dance-floor full of happy faces, swaying hips and stomping feet, powered by DJs such as StrainDigitalHippieDj SONICPsyTekhFractal and others!
As well as free shooters, and abundant positive energy.

Rolandi Senekal got everyone feathered up for the occasion with beautiful feather hair extensions. Check out her page  RSFeathers to find out more. I cannot wait to get one of these things!

When it comes to trance parties, bigger is not always better.
Herbal Remedy offers a truly unique and intimate psy experience.

One party-goer described the event as:
“Simply the ONLY decent source of indoor psy.”

Keep an eye out for these snazzy bumper stickers cruising around the Mother City. Yep, they are handed out FOR FREE every party. Grab yours at at the next one, and show your support.

Where to from here?
Herbal Remedy: YING. Come and retain your balance.

Review: Full Moon Festival- ECLIPSE

A big thank-you from all the happy stompers of the Cape to everyone who helped make the Full Moon Festival such a success. A rewarding night of banging beats and good vibes was had by all.

From the decor to the line-up, it’s clear that Full Moon Events  put in a lot of effort and attention-to-detail behind the scenes.
And that’s what makes an indoor party so unique and enjoyable.
Others will agree with me when describing  the event as positively different to any of its kind held at  The Side Show.

Everywhere I looked, I was greeted by smiling faces.  It’s always refreshing to encounter such a sense of of unity on the dancefloor (all due to the amazing power of psy). I am very lucky to have been part of it. Special thanks goes to Schalk Jaco Kruger for hooking me up with a spot on the guestlist.

Israeli extraordinaires, Nir Sobol & Eyal Tzur (Exaile) were central highlights of the evening. And just as promised, they tore Side Show to pieces. The pysk that radiated from the crowd was no less than incredible.

Listen to this insane track that Exaile played during their set.

In terms of visuals, party-goers were kept enchanted by out-of-this-world displays. Thanks to The Psychedelic Theatre for an awesome LED light show, Myles Design (and his psychedelicious yellow flower) as well as Frank Latter Visuals (below are some snapshots of Frank’s mind-blowing projection mapping at the event).

Further highlights included local acts:

SiLo – LISTEN  to his Winter Progressive Mix 2013

Dj Bruce (Nexus Media)

Archive (MMD Records)

Skarab (The Village SA)

Sway (Beartrap)

Plusminus

Technicolour (Spectral Records)

and others!
