Valley of Psy is the resident psy event for the Cape Town’s Southern Peninsula. What began as a bi-monthly gathering at the Bush Pub quickly evolved into one of the scene’s most frequented parties with monthly and even weekly events – all under the fruitful guidance of the Lili (Myzo) and Stuart Vermaak (Hiyarant).
“We like to party close to home, and love intimate trance parties with good vibes and energy,” says Hiyamyzo. “It all started as a ‘why not?’ The DJs and party people began asking us when the next one would be. We got more and more excited about the concept and decided to throw parties more often. We really love the fact that we get messages everyday from Valley of Psy fans or upcoming DJs requesting to play on our events.” Continue reading Behind the scenes with Valley of Psy + friends
It’s crazy to think that Earthdance Cape Town was born sixteen years ago – I was only six at the time. What’s more impressive is the fact that Earthdance International has been going since 1996. Having grown up in Cape Town, I regularly heard whispers about the event and consequently, decided that it would be the outdoor festival I’d attend upon turning eighteen. Since then, celebrating my Birthday at Earthdance has become a tradition (one that I hope will continue far into future) and this year was no different. On the 19th of September 2015, we were on the road to Nekkies Resort in Worcester once again. We arrived just after lunch and right in time for a good helping of Dan Scot’s progilicious beats.
By the time we set up camp, K Fox had taken over. The sun was out – a true reminder that outdoor season had begun. We explored the venue a little and I allowed my bass-loving friends to steer me into the DnB tent. When we finally made our way towards the psy stage, my eyes were greeted by something from a fairytale. Fanciful colours cascaded down from the imaginative Sky Temple – created by the talented Carin Dickson of Artescape. (Another notable display of incredible arts and culture could be found in the Psychedelic Dream Temple with its entrancing array of visionary artwork). Located far away from the hustle and bustle of Cape Town city bowl, Valley of Psy brings something new to the psytrance calendar. With monthly and bi-monthly events hosted at the Bush Pub, the organisation has earned its reputation as the go-to indoor/outdoor party within the Southern Peninsula. Frequent acts include local legends Myzo, Hiyarant, Zion Linguist, Eqlipse, JustOne, Disco Volante, Psyqlopz and Rubix Qube to name a few – accompanied by banging sound, a super relaxed atmosphere and affordable drinks to quench your thirst.
Standa chance to win tickets for Valley of Psy – The Muses featuring Myzo, Tune Raider, Sway, Mystrix and Eqlipse. To enter: Comment on this photo and tag your stomping buddy. Remember to use the #psyked hashtag.

I entered the Parallel Universe just before noon on Sunday – a little later than planned, but nevertheless I was there. When we got to the dance-floor Lucas was closing up shop. Beside him, Raja Ram’s fluorescent-orange peak cap bobbed up and down to the music.
Excitement moved through me as I dissolved into the crowd. Revelry was in full swing, and it wasn’t hard to tell who had been there from the start. Whether brightly clean or slightly bruised and battered, everyone had come to witness the Godfather of Psytrance in action. Suddenly the floor was packed. Tune Raider AKA Pamm Legg is one of South Africa’s most prominent female DJs. With thirteen years of experience behind her name, countless dance-floor hits, a radio show on Mutha FM and a documentary entitled “Under the African Sky,” Tune Raider is no stranger to the world of psy. Signed by Twenty4Seven Records, Spectral Records and Magnetika, her dynamic style ranges from night-time full-on to psychedelic morning beats. And Cape Town just can’t get enough.
These questions were compiled by Batia Efrat on behalf of
