Review: Psycho Circus @ Carnival Court.

On Friday night, CentralSound Events in association with Carnival Court presented its
first ever PSYCHO CIRCUS event. A great night of psychedelicious sounds, uplifting
atmosphere and friendly faces was shared by all who attended. Highlights included banging beats from Hektek Elektrek, Iamikonic and Drang3d, fun decor by Mike and Mel and super trippy visuals. Special thanks goes to the organisers and Michael Honeyman for making it happen. As well as, DJ Reiner who kindly stood in for Nick Birkby as he was unable to attend the event.

Review: Beartrap- Mystical Contact

So, Monday is here. Time to put our party hats away and our thinking caps back on – for now.
But before you do that, let’s reflect on the weekend’s highlights.

On Saturday night I had the pleasure of psyking out to the legendary
Eddie Zaltsman (Mystical Complex) and Didy Ezra (Bizzare Contact) at the Side Show,
one of Cape Town’s hottest venues right now). These psy-sensations had the
crowed bouncing, swaying and stomping til they simply couldn’t anymore.

Along with psyko international tunes and a kick-ass lineup, that included local talent like PortalPsyDJay MarkSwaysHiFt, Flyp PSyd, Sci Lab (Mungus Fungus), Chemogen & D Ranged,
the “day of the dead” themed decor was absolutely mind-blowing.

Snapshots I took at the party.

It’s evident that the organisers went the extra mile to ensure
a great party experience for all. The “Fez Face” was psyked out for the occasion with
flower-power projection mapping, and everywhere I looked, from the ceiling to the DJ box,
I was greeted with majestic eye candy.

The event was made extra special by the Día de Muertos performers (from fire-breathers to
hula-hoopers), who were transformed with body-art by Michaela Young and Mix Makeup. Super cool.

It certainly was a mystical night. From the tight security to the awesome decor, vibrant atmosphere
and the love that pumped all the way through, thank you Beartrap Productions for making it happen.
Having been involved in the trance scene for over ten years, their experience and expertise shine through. They know how to throw a killer party.
Can’t wait for the next one!

Review: Full Moon Festival- ECLIPSE

A big thank-you from all the happy stompers of the Cape to everyone who helped make the Full Moon Festival such a success. A rewarding night of banging beats and good vibes was had by all.

From the decor to the line-up, it’s clear that Full Moon Events  put in a lot of effort and attention-to-detail behind the scenes.
And that’s what makes an indoor party so unique and enjoyable.
Others will agree with me when describing  the event as positively different to any of its kind held at  The Side Show.

Everywhere I looked, I was greeted by smiling faces.  It’s always refreshing to encounter such a sense of of unity on the dancefloor (all due to the amazing power of psy). I am very lucky to have been part of it. Special thanks goes to Schalk Jaco Kruger for hooking me up with a spot on the guestlist.

Israeli extraordinaires, Nir Sobol & Eyal Tzur (Exaile) were central highlights of the evening. And just as promised, they tore Side Show to pieces. The pysk that radiated from the crowd was no less than incredible.

Listen to this insane track that Exaile played during their set.

In terms of visuals, party-goers were kept enchanted by out-of-this-world displays. Thanks to The Psychedelic Theatre for an awesome LED light show, Myles Design (and his psychedelicious yellow flower) as well as Frank Latter Visuals (below are some snapshots of Frank’s mind-blowing projection mapping at the event).

Further highlights included local acts:

SiLo – LISTEN  to his Winter Progressive Mix 2013

Dj Bruce (Nexus Media)

Archive (MMD Records)

Skarab (The Village SA)

Sway (Beartrap)

Plusminus

Technicolour (Spectral Records)

and others!

as well as references to the photographers who captured the magic.

Have a raging week, fellow stompers.

Review: Freedom Fighters LIVE @ SideShow

On Saturday the 15th of June, Freedom Fighters (aka Shahaf Efrat) performed live at Side Show and rocked the crowd so hard they’re still feeling the effects.

Other highlights included HEADROOMDeliriant & Shift. While  Chemogen, EMP, Archive and Strain  kept the upstairs dancefloor pumping.

One party-goer describes the event as, “hands down one of the best indoors I’ve ever been to.” And judging by the smile-wearing, boot-stomping crowd (and super positive Facebook feedback) she is not the only one.

Special thanks goes to 6th Sense Psytrance, the organizers of the event.
Myles Kamermans (Check out Myles Design to see more of his work) and Mungus Fungus for the psychedelicious décor that provided us with copious visual bliss. As well as Anonymous Visual Design for the Stage Mapping, Psychedelic Theatre and Fire Tribe. (And everyone else who was involved).

If you were there, I’m sure you can agree it was a major success. Personally, I cannot wait for the talented psy guru Shahaf to return to South Africa.

Below is a picture of the man himself admiring our city’s beauty.
