As 2017 comes to a close, we’re looking back at some of the best outdoor music festivals of the year. Jungala Festival, hosted by PsynOpticz Records at the ever-popular Buffalo Drift venue on the Berg river, is one of the largest and most eagerly awaited outdoor festivals on the psytrance calendar. This year, PsynOpticz transported its party-goers to what felt like a slice of paradise and we’d like to take a moment to relive some of the memories.
Ridiculously awesome decor by ZARAZbrought the Isle of Jungala to life this year (with jungle totems and the circle designed by Christopher Dowding and decorated by Artescape) while entrancing lighting and mind-blowing sound from Magnetic Storm Cape Town provided a powerful visual and audio experience that won’t soon be forgotten. In fact, we feel like inserting a few heart-eyed emojis just thinking about it. If you weren’t there, fear not. We’re going to fill you in on what you missed.
It was Saturday morning, the 25th of April; we were on the road to Buffalo Drift at last – the home of Jungala Festival 2015. My excitement mounted as finally we passed through the gates. The sounds of Rob GonZo’s techno beats emanated in the background and we decided to scout the dance-floor. It was twelve o ‘clock, already the venue was bustling.
I strolled through a quasi-market filled with colourful stalls selling dream-catchers, crystals and clothing, and past the Prema Shanti Healing Sanctuary. The Psychedelic Dream Temple lay ahead with its collection of visionary artworks – as curated by Jonathan West. Then I saw it: the dance-floor. What a sight to behold!
The castle-like structure towered before me and we moved into the oasis. Unfortunately Broken Switch was unable to perform due to unforeseen circumstances so we were treated to some extra Rob GonZo magic before Nick Grater got behind the decks.
At only 25 years of age, Iliuchina (aka Veronica Iliuhin Loren) is already one of the most prominent names in the world of psytrance. The talented Berlin-born DJ is signed by a number of international labels including PsynOpticz, Spectral Records and Magnetika, and has shared the stage with world-renowned acts such as GMS, Electrypnose and Astrix. Iliuchina is loved for her dark psychedelic style and driving basslines which have captivated audiences around the globe, from Germany to Portugal, all the way to Mexico and Australia. This year Iliuchina will return to Cape Town to perform at Jungala Festival 2015.
Set in the beautiful Buffalo Drift – Ruigtevlei Farm along the banks of Berg River, Psynopticz Productions is proud to welcome you to Jungala Festival 2015.
