Exclusive interview with Disco Volante: Melodies, groove and energy

Disco Volante is made up of Daniel Honor (aka Critical Mass) and Alex Inggs (aka Risky Business). Since inception in 2013, the act has continued to attract psytrance listeners far and near with their high-energy, powered by euphoric beats and melodic undertones. Signed by numerous labels including Global Army Music, PsynOpticz and Nexus Media, Disco Volante knows how to turn up the energy on dance-floors big and small. We’re psyked to welcome this dynamic duo to the line-up of our second collab event with Reboot on the 8th of July, DISCO DISCO, where we will be celebrating the release of their brand new album.

Disco Volante

PSYKED:
Hi guys! To start off let’s talk about your new EP, Clickbait. How long has it been in the making, and what kind of sound can we expect to hear from you guys this time round?

DISCO VOLANTE:
Yes, we are adding the final touches to our new EP which we are expecting to release next month on Nexus Media. We can’t wait to showcase our fresh, new music! The last EP we released was in January 2015 so it has been quite some time. We have been working for months trying out different sounds and techniques, and our knowledge has grown quite a bit in the studio. Our new EP is definitely going back to our roots – the vision we had when we first started this project 3 years ago [which is] our interpretation of euphoric twilight/ full-on psy trance. You can expect loads of melodies, groove and energy on our new EP. We will be releasing the artwork and final track list during the next week or so.

PSYKED:
Will there be any more releases from Disco Volante coming out this year?

DISCO VOLANTE:
Most definitely. We are writing loads of tracks for compilations on different labels (this is also why our EP has been so delayed). Our next release will be with our good friend DJ Ganeisha’s compilation Science of Music Vol 3. We also have more tracks on the way that will be coming out on other friends’ V/A’s including DJ Guapa Lee on Replicant Records and Chemo Boy through Global Army music. We’ll be announcing more soon. Review: Vortex Parallel Universe 2016

After a self-imposed trance party hiatus for the past four months, I was really looking forward to Vortex Parallel Universe. Easter Vortex, as it’s affectionately known, has always had a special place in my heart; not only is it hosted at my all-time favourite venue but each year it promises a stellar line-up that can’t be missed.

Die-hard Vortexers may swear by the Circle of Dreams but in my humble opinion, Hillside Farm is an equally magical venue with its enchanted forest-like atmosphere and majestic canopies. This year, the dance-floor was moved ever so slightly – creating more space for stompers to get wild. And I loved how the arrangement of stalls made the party seem like a little gypsy village.

After arriving on Sunday morning, we were shocked to see how many people were leaving the party due to hectic weather conditions the night before. Nevertheless, we were prepared to weather the weather for this worthy cause! We arrived in time to catch the last bit of Deliriant (or rather the King of Psy) before Avalon came on, taking us on rhythmic journey which left me with goosebumps.

Review: Earthdance Cape Town 2015

It’s crazy to think that Earthdance Cape Town was born sixteen years ago – I was only six at the time. What’s more impressive is the fact that Earthdance International has been going since 1996. Having grown up in Cape Town, I regularly heard whispers about the event and consequently, decided that it would be the outdoor festival I’d attend upon turning eighteen. Since then, celebrating my Birthday at Earthdance has become a tradition (one that I hope will continue far into future) and this year was no different. On the 19th of September 2015, we were on the road to Nekkies Resort in Worcester once again. We arrived just after lunch and right in time for a good helping of Dan Scot’s progilicious beats.

By the time we set up camp, K Fox had taken over. The sun was out – a true reminder that outdoor season had begun. We explored the venue a little and I allowed my bass-loving friends to steer me into the DnB tent. When we finally made our way towards the psy stage, my eyes were greeted by something from a fairytale. Fanciful colours cascaded down from the imaginative Sky Temple – created by the talented Carin Dickson of Artescape. (Another notable display of incredible arts and culture could be found in the Psychedelic Dream Temple with its entrancing array of visionary artwork).
